Fanfare announces House of Blues exhibit winners

     HAMMOND – Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s annual fall arts festival, has again joined with the International House of Blues Foundation and its Blues School House Program to sponsor an art competition for local school children.
     The competition is designed to inspire students in grades 5-12 to use recycled or “found” materials to create artwork depicting significant events that shape their lives and world. The students’ art is on display in the lobby of the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, 220 E. Thomas St. in Hammond. Artwork can be viewed from 11 a.m. -4 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, through Oct. 30.
     Participating artists have been invited to a special program at the House of Blues in New Orleans for a guided folk art tour and a live music presentation on the history of the blues.
     The 2009 International House of Blues Foundation art competition winners are:
     ■ Fifth grade – Ian Pratt, North Corbin Elementary School, first; Madeline Cerise, Lake Harbor Middle School, second; Lauren Gottschalk, Lake Harbor Middle School, third.
     ■ Sixth grade – Carly Cain, North Corbin Junior High School, first; Matthew Seguin, North Corbin Junior High School, second; Chloe Grogan, North Corbin Junior High School, third.
     ■ Seventh grade – Conner Estes, North Corbin Junior High School, first; Olivia Duhe, Trafton Academy, second; Brittany Baldwin, Mary Queen of Peace School, third.
     ■ Eighth grade – Kaitlynn King, North Corbin Junior High School, first; Chris Vise, North Corbin Junior High School, second; Cassidy Smith, North Corbin Junior High School, third.
     ■ Ninth grade – Wallace Bryant Laird III, Covington High School, first; Linsey Boudreaux, Pearl River High School, second; Mina Culbertson, Covington High School, third.
     ■ 10th grade – Daniel Dubuisson, Loranger High School, first; Hope Truxillo, Independence High School, second; Leighton Canal, Loranger High School, third.
     ■ 11th Grade – Karli Mickel, Pearl River High School, first; Dana Duplantier, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, second; Elizabeth Gambel, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, third.
     ■12th Grade – Mallory Linn, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, first; Kajsa Martin, Pearl River High School, second; Elise Mondebello, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, third.
