HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University’s Sims Memorial Library is inviting the public to special events during this week’s celebration of National Library Week.
“This year’s theme is ‘Communities Thrive @ Your Library,’” said Library Director Eric Johnson. “We’re inviting everyone to join us as we and libraries across the country highlight everything that we can do for our friends.”
Beginning Sunday, April 11, through Saturday, April 17, Sims Library members can enjoy a week of no fines during “Fine Free Week.” Late fees for overdue library books will be forgiven on the spot.
On Monday, April 12, Patrick Hammett and Matthew Ohrberg, students of Southeastern music faculty member Patrick Kerber, will perform a joint guitar recital at noon. Attendees can also enjoy a piece of special Library Week cake.
Librarians, students and faculty members will read selections from their favorite poems in “Not My Words” on Tuesday, April 13, at 7 p.m. The event will also include light refreshments and a drawing for door prizes.
The library’s annual book sale will be held in the lobby April 14 and 15 from 8:30 a.m.- 8 p.m.  A wide variety of hardcover and paperback books will be available at unbeatable prices. Transactions are cash only.
