HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts is bringing Amanda Shaw and her band the Cute Guys to the stage of the historic downtown Hammond theatre on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. for one show only.
A New Orleans-based singer, songwriter, fiddler and actress, Shaw embraces traditional and pop sounds, creating music that is both authentic and bold. At the age of 19, she is a seasoned entertainer with a substantial audience across the southern United States.
Shaw has gained an increased national presence thanks in part to her starring role in the IMAX film, “Hurricane on the Bayou.” She has also received numerous local awards, including a Big Easy Award for “Best Female Entertainer” when she was only 14.
“Amanda Shaw is a dynamo of a performer. Her energy and stage presence are perfectly matched with her skill and mastery of the fiddle,” said Columbia Theatre Director Donna Gay Anderson. “We are honored to finally claim her as a Columbia season performer.”
Attracted to the violin at the age of three after hearing an orchestra on television, Shaw is a former student of Southestern’s Community Music School who, at the age of seven, became the youngest performer ever to solo with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. She performed twice on the Rosie O’Donnell Show, opened locally for Charlie Daniels and played onstage with Cyndi Lauper.
Tickets for Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys are $28, Orchestra; $30, Loge; and $25, Balcony and are available at the Columbia box office, 220 East Thomas Street, 985-543-4371, or online at columbiatheatre.org.
Box office hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and one hour before performance times. Southeastern students may purchase half-priced tickets, while supplies last, at the box office with university I.D.
