HAMMOND – Pianist Kerry Baham, a Southeastern Louisiana University alumnus and native of Hammond, will return to the university for a guest recital on Friday, March 26.
The free event – part of the Department of Music and Dramatic Arts spring Encore! performing arts series – will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
A member of the music faculty at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas, Baham will be performing a number of pieces by Frederic Chopin in recognition of the 200th anniversary of his birth, as well as works by other classical musicians.
Baham graduated in 1992 from Southeastern in piano performance under the guidance of David Evenson, head of Southeastern’s Department of Music and Dramatic Arts, and earned a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of North Texas. In addition, he received a scholarship for further piano studies in Europe, performing concerts in Vienna and Salzburg.
An artist on the Eroica classical recordings label, he is currently involved in recording the complete sonatas of Mozart. He has performed as a soloist with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra and the Jackson Symphony and has been awarded top prizes in the Collegiate Artist Competition and Wideman International Piano Competition.
