(1) LOUISIANA SCHOOL FOR MATH, SCIENCE AND THE ARTS STUDENT WINS SCHOLARSHIP - Mason Joiner, right, of the Louisiana School of Math, Science and the Arts received the Wallonie-Bruxelles International Scholarship, presented by the French community of Belgium. The scholarship offers one summer abroad study during July at the University de Mons and recognizes Joiner’s performance in French Extemporaneous Speaking IV. Presenting the award is Dr. Evelyne Bornier of the Southeastern Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.


(2) URSULINE ACADEMY STUDENT WINS CRUISE - Gabrielle Lavelle, right, of Ursuline Academy received a Mexican cruise for two from New Orleans presented by the Southeastern Foreign Languages and Literatures Department. The award was for Lavelle’s performance in Spanish Extemporaneous Speaking IV. Dr. Luz Escobar of the Southeastern Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, left, presents the award.


(3) NATCHITOCHES PARISH FIRST PLACE WINNERS – Students from Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts were among the first place winners at the Foreign Language Festival held at Southeastern Louisiana University March 23.      HAMMOND – Mount Carmel Academy of New Orleans took top honors at the 28th annual Foreign Language Festival at Southeastern Louisiana University March 23.
     Held at the university’s War Memorial Student Union ballroom, the festival drew 10 schools from surrounding parishes to participate in Spanish and French poetry, prose, and extemporaneous speaking categories and as groups in music and plays.
     Mt. Carmel took top honors in Tier 1, the division for magnet schools and schools with more than 600 students, while the Louisiana School of Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches garnered the highest award for Tier 2, schools with fewer than 600 students. 
     In the French music category, winners were Mt. Carmel Academy, first; Chapelle High School of Metairie, second; St. Scholastica Academy of Covington, third. In the French play category, Mt. Carmel was first, Ursuline Academy of New Orleans, second; and St. Scholastica, third.
     Spanish music winners were Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts, first; De La Salle School of New Orleans, second; and Mt. Carmel, third. In the Spanish play category, St. Scholastica was first; Northlake Christian School of Covington, second; and Mt. Carmel, third.
     Two students received special festival awards. Mason Joiner of Louisiana School of Math, Science and the Arts received the Wallonie-Bruxelles International Scholarship, presented by the French community of Belgium, while Gabrielle Lavelle of Ursuline Academy received a Mexican cruise for two from New Orleans, presented by the Southeastern Foreign Languages and Literatures Department.
