     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences honored top graduates and its 2010 alumnus of the year at its annual honors convocation May 3.
     First Circuit Court of Appeals Judge James E. Kuhn, a 1968 Southeastern graduate, was given the college’s top alumni honor. A native of Ponchatoula, Kuhn served as an assistant District Attorney from 1980 until his election to the 21st Judicial District Court as Judge in 1990. He was elected to the Court of Appeals in 1994. Kuhn served in the Army National Guard from 1969-1974 and attended the Army War College National Security Seminar in Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
     Also at the honors convocation, the college honored several faculty members with awards. Recognized were Gerald McNeill, sociology and criminal justice, for excellence in teaching; Jeffrey Bell, history and political science, for excellence in research; Richard Schwartz, music and dramatic arts, for excellence in artistic activity; and Joseph Burns, communication, for excellence in faculty service.
     The college honored inductees into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the university’s honor society the Thirteen Club, and students on the President’s List, Dean’s List, and Honor Roll.
 Departmental awards and scholarships were presented to the following:
 AMITE – Melinda Jackson, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Criminal Justice.
 BOGALUSA – Shanna Guest, Outstanding Senior in Liberal Arts Studies.
 COVINGTON – Jessica Stargardter, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Sociology.
 FRANKLINTON – Katherine Beach, Southeastern Psychology Award; Tommie Sorrell, D Vickers Award for Creative Writing.
 HAMMOND – Christin Blair Abene, James Wilcox Award in Music; John Tiley, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Spanish Award.
 LACOMBE – Amber Sheppard, Harold Leu Award in Political Science.
 THIBODAUX – Chase Ledet, Ralph R. Pottle Sr. Honor Scholarship for the outstanding freshman in music.
 TICKFAW – Keith Hogan, Department of Visual Arts Best in Show Award. 
 VIOLET – Samantha Perez, Martina Buck Award in History, Outstanding Graduating Senior in English.
 INTERNATIONAL – Sandrine Tucker of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Outstanding Graduating Senior in French Award; Estera Pirosca of Romania, Outstanding Senior in Communication Award.
