     HAMMOND – Three area students received Southeastern Louisiana University College of Nursing and Health Sciences’ highest honor, the Dean’s Award, at the college’s annual honors convocation held April 27 in the Student Union Theatre.
     Katherine Boudreaux of Mandeville was recognized by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Jennifer Worley of Baton Rouge by the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, and Kristy Wells of Denham Springs by the School of Nursing. 
     Several area institutions were cited with the Significant Partnership Award in recognition of their contributions to the educational programs in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Options, Inc. of Hammond, which employs professional and direct-care staff to provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities in the area, was cited for serving as a training site for student clinicians. The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies recognized North Oaks Sports Medicine, a component of North Oaks Rehabilitation Services. St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s Tau Center in Baton Rouge were recognized by the School of Nursing’s Hammond campus and Baton Rouge Center respectively.
     At the convocation, the Southeastern Alumni Association honored Wanda Spurlock of Baton Rouge with its 2010 Distinguished Alumnus Award for the college. A specialist in dementia care for more than 20 years, she has been recognized for her community service with a Nightingale Award by the Louisiana State Nurses Association. She is a member of the Southern University School of Nursing faculty.
Students honored at the ceremony included:
Caddo Parish – Brian Williams of Shreveport, the Graduate Scholar Award in Kinesiology and Health Studies.
East Baton Rouge Parish – Hayden Bell, the Opal Carl Award in Nursing; Katie Keen, Graduate Scholar Award in Kinesiology and Health Studies; Jennifer Worley, Dean’s Award in Kinesiology and Health Studies. All are from the city of Baton Rouge.
Jefferson Parish – Ashley Grow of Marrero, the Evelyn Davis Award in Nursing.
Livingston Parish – Kelly Maloney of Springfield, the Charles W. Campbell Memorial Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Samantha Wilkinson-White of Holden, the Brian Wang Award for Outstanding Senior in Health and Physical Education/Teacher Education; Kristy Wells of Denham Springs, the Dean’s Award in Nursing; and Harper Wray of Walker, the Outstanding Graduate in Health Education and Promotion.
St. Charles Parish – Samone Cammon of Destrehan, the Outstanding Graduate in Sport Management.
St. John the Baptist Parish – Jill LeBlanc of Reserve, the Outstanding Graduate in Fitness and Human Performance.
St. Tammany Parish – Katherine Boudreaux of Mandeville, the Dean’s Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Abby Meehan of Mandeville, Outstanding Graduate in Exercise Science.
Tangipahoa Parish – Jeffery Gaddy, the Nursing Leadership and Service Award; Sheila Matheny, the Graduate Scholar Award in Nursing; and Amanda Moore, the Emma LaDew Memorial Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders. All are from Hammond.
Terrebonne Parish – Anatoly Sabillo of Houma, the Graduate Scholar Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

(2) Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences recently recognized outstanding students at the college’s honors convocation. Eddie Hebert, left, head of the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies, presents the award to Brian Williams of Shreveport, who received the Graduate Scholar Award in Kinesiology. Williams is an exercise specialist at Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport.

(8) Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences recently recognized outstanding students at the college’s honors convocation. Amanda “Mandy” Moore of Hammond received the Emma LaDew Memorial Award in Communication Sciences and Disorders.


(9) Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences recently recognized outstanding students at the college’s honors convocation. Jeffery Gaddy of Hammond was recognized with the Leadership and Service Award in Nursing.

(12) The Southeastern Louisiana University Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders honored Options, Inc. of Hammond with its Significant Partnership Award. Accepting the award were Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Bush and Steve Leon, vocational director.
