HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts will celebrate the holiday season when the university’s historic downtown theater hosts the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual holiday concert Nov. 27. As an added bonus this year, a special local guest will narrate a musical setting of “The Night Before Christmas.”
“The Columbia Theatre is very pleased to once again host the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra for its annual holiday concert,” said Kenneth Boulton, Columbia Theatre interim director. “I am especially thrilled that one of our most active and long-standing community members, Joe Abene, will participate in the program as narrator.”
Abene has been an ardent supporter of Southeastern and the Columbia Theatre for many years, as well as an established leader in the Ponchatoula business community, Boulton said. His daughter Blair is a recent Southeastern graduate and a former Miss Southeastern and Miss Louisiana.
“Joe’s appearance will certainly be one of the program’s best treats, and I hope the entire region will support one of their own on the special evening,” Boulton said.
Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance for the popular 7:30 p.m. concert, traditionally a sell-out.
Tickets are $38, Orchestra; $42, Loge; and $36, Balcony. Tickets can be purchased online at www.columbiatheatre.org or at the Columbia Theatre box office, 220 E. Thomas St., (985) 543-4371. Box office hours are 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and one hour before performance time.
