Fanfare announces House of Blues Exhibit winners

CREATIVE ARTWORK – Area students submitted works of art for the 10th Annual International House of Blues Foundation Art Exhibit, now on display in the Columbia Theatre Grand Lobby. The artwork can be viewed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday or Friday through Oct. 29.


     HAMMOND – Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s annual fall arts festival, has again joined with the International House of Blues Foundation and its Blues School House Program to sponsor an art competition for local school children.
     The competition is designed to inspire students in grades 5-12 to use recycled or “found” materials to create artwork depicting significant events that shape their lives and world. The students’ art is on display in the lobby of the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts, 220 E. Thomas St. in Hammond. Artwork can be viewed from 11 a.m. -4 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, through Oct. 29.
     Participating artists have been invited to a special program at the House of Blues in New Orleans for a guided folk art tour and a live music presentation on the history of the blues.
     The 2010 International House of Blues Foundation art competition winners are:
■ Fifth grade – Seth Martin, Mandeville Middle School, first; Courtney Williams, Hammond Westside Upper AMP, second; Jolie Bouillion, Mandeville Middle School, third.
■ Sixth grade – Katelynn Dorsa, Hammond Eastside Upper, first; Lindsey Parkins, Mandeville Middle School, second; Skye Jeansonne, Mandeville Middle School, third.
■ Seventh grade – Laramie McElveen, Sumner Middle School, first; Adrian Talbot, Jr., Trafton Academy, second; Bethany Ketchum, Independence Middle School, third.
■ Eighth grade – Michelle Chatry, St. Scholastica Academy, first; Olivia Duhe, Trafton Adacemy, second; Anna Berglund, Nesom Middle School, third.
■ Ninth grade – Nathaniel Martin, Covington High School, first; Ashtin Mullett, Covington High School, second; Taylor Williams, Sumner High School, third.
■ 10th grade – Berenice Calderon, Independence High School, first; Krista Johnson, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, second; Michelle Nuccio, Independence High School, third.
■ 11th Grade – Amy Dugas, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, first; Jesse Willis, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, second; Emily Egan, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, third.
■12th Grade – Caitlyn Kiral, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, first; Karli Michel, Pearl River High School, second; Lexie Abreu, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, third.
