HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts will present Moxie Dance Project’s “Connections” Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Pottle Auditorium.
Directed by Southeastern dance instructor Dana Brewer-Plazinic, “Connections” features student choreographers Kaleigh Brandt and Larry Montelongo of Slidell, Ashli Tallo of Hammond, and Diamond Williams of Baton Rouge. Guest choreographer is LaDazha Moll-Ford, a Southeastern alumnus; Brewer-Plazinic serves as faculty choreographer.
“Each piece concerns aspects of our connections to people and places and the way those connections shape and direct our lives,” Brewer-Plazinic said. “The connections are spiritual, geographical, or personal. Some are positive, some negative, but each has made us who we are and influences our path.”
Brewer-Plazinic said that her piece is a tribute to Louisiana and its treasures and people.
“There will be live music for the Louisiana piece and a film about the gradual loss of our natural resources,” Brewer-Plazinic said. “The film was shot on location at Southeastern’s own Turtle Cove Environmental Research Facility and Fountainebleau State Park in Mandeville.”
Southeastern dancers performing in the concert include Brandt, Montelongo, Tallo and Williams; Victoria Cheramie, LaPlace; Alyssa DiMarco, Marrero; Raven Dunlap, Plaquemine; Arthur Frank, Stephanie Hughes, Crystal Schayot and Amanda Tracy of New Orleans; Sarah Gregoire, Jeoffrey Harris, Nicole Judson and Giara Major of Baton Rouge; Heather Harvey, Ashtin Robertson and Heidi Wales of Hammond; Megan LeBlanc, Port Allen; Holly Lenzen, LaCombe; Danielle Smiley, Prairieville; Brittney Terrell, Bogalusa; Victoria Vollentine, Covington; Brittany Zachary, Mandeville; Morgan Marcum of Groton, CT; Ashanti McLaurin of Chicago; and guest performer Megan Kinchen.
Tickets -- $5, general admission, and $2, non-Southeastern students, senior citizens, and Southeastern faculty and staff -- go on sale one-hour before the show. Southeastern students are admitted free with university I.D.
