     HAMMOND –The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University along with SCORE Northshore Chapter will host a comprehensive series of workshops to show businesses how to test ideas and get started on the right path.
     The Simple Steps for Starting Your Business™ Series includes five three-hour sessions to teach the basics of:
• concepts involved in assessing a business idea;
• marketing products or services;
• understanding business financials and how they work;
• how to fund and finance a business.
     “The introductory workshop is free and focuses on the basics of testing your business idea and identifying the key factors that influence start-up success,” said Sandy Summers, assistant director of the SBDC. “Start-up Basics provides an overview of the skills and tools needed when deciding to start a business.”
     Summers said attendees will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of owning a business, the most profitable form for business, and the fundamentals of formation, organization, marketing, cash flow and funding sources.
     “Attend this workshop and decide if this series is the right fit for you,” she added.
The free, introductory session will be held on two occasions: on Tuesday, April 26, in Slidell and Tuesday, May 3, in Mandeville.
     All following classes will be held in Mandeville at the Southeastern St. Tammany Center on Tuesdays in May from 5 to 8 p.m.  While the first session (Start up Basics) is free, the cost to attend all 5 classes is $100. Those who fully register before April 26 will pay $75. This includes tools and resources along with food and beverages. One additional attendee from the same company may attend the series at no additional cost.
