HAMMOND –Southeastern Louisiana University is now offering “Pain-free Selling,” a new free class to assist area businesses and individuals in the Florida parishes with training needs.
The training is through support from a $190,000 Unites States Department of Labor grant acquired by the Division of Extended Studies and the Southeast Louisiana Business Center. Programs are also offered in the areas of customer service, advanced customer service and safety and loss prevention.
Southeastern has partnered with Northshore Technical College, Kiisa Corporation, Steve Pereira with Safety Associates and sales instructor Tiffanie Lyon to fashion the curriculum to the needs of each class. The two-part sales classes are offered on two consecutive Wednesdays, Feb. 9 and 16, and two sets of consecutive Thursdays on March 17 and 24 and April 14 and 21.
“The pain-free selling course will empower employees to make a positive impact on the sales process, either directly or indirectly. And this in turn will boost the bottom line for the company,” Lyon said. “Everybody sells. Sales training plus sales motivation benefits everybody – the employee, the company and the customers.”
Extended Studies Project Manager Charlotte Collins said companies and individuals taking part in the training have seen a direct increase in skills and often request additional scholarships. Participants can earn Continuing Education Credits (CEU’s) from Southeastern upon successful completion of the 15-hour course.
“A company appointed mentor is required to ensure that each employee completes all of the training and to monitor their progress,” Collins said. “For the underemployed job-seekers, we have also partnered with the local Workforce Investment Act (WIA) centers in each region to mentor individuals.”
“Efforts are made to link individuals and businesses with similar training needs,” Collins added. “With centers in three parishes, we set the location based on the applications. Full scholarships are available to residents 17 years and older in the five Florida Parishes of Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington.”
