Southeastern professor receives top award for health education

     HAMMOND – Linda Baily Synovitz of Southeastern Louisiana University has received the Honor Award from the Southern District American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. 
     The Honor Award is the highest recognition by AAHPERD and is given based on the merit of scholarly works and services rendered. The award was presented at the organization’s recent convention in Greensboro, N.C.
     “I am honored my professional peers considered me for this award,” says Synovitz. “The Honor Award represents a high degree of respect and thanks for the scholarly work and service that I have accomplished. I am truly gratified that I was nominated, much less given this award.”  Synovitz has been serving as a professor of health education and promotion in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies for 15 years. She has received numerous past honors for research and service and was the National Health Education College Professional of the Year for the American Association of Health Education. She is also a member of four national, one regional and one state health organization and has served on their boards or as an officer.  
     AAHPERD is a national organization whose mission is to promote and support leadership, research, education, and best practices in the professions that support creative, healthy, and active lifestyles. It provides professional guidelines, standards, resources and tools for educators and practitioners to use, as well as educate and provide research for the public.
