     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences honored top graduates and its 2011 alumnus of the year at its annual honors convocation May 2.
     Luz Maria Lopez, a 1995 Southeastern graduate and Honduras-born artist, was given the college’s top alumni honor. Lopez’s work was selected for display in “Trophies of Honor,” a project hosted by the Griffith University at Queensland, Australia and Mississippi State University. The project’s mission was to chronicle and preserve native culture and art. She has exhibited her work nationally in numerous group and solo shows. Venues include the Meadows Museum at Centenary College, Museum of Latin American Art in California, Mobile Museum of Art, and the Hunter Museum of American Art in Tennessee. A collection of her work also hangs in the lobby of Southeastern’s D Vickers classroom building.
     Departmental awards and scholarships were presented to the following:
     DENHAM SPRINGS – Haley Davison, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Spanish.
     FOLSOM – Katie Montelepre, Outstanding Senior in Liberal Arts Studies; Ashley Smith, Outstanding Senior in English.
     HAMMOND – Kimberly Guidroz, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Liberal Arts Studies; Jody McMillan, Harold Leu Award in Political Science; Alexandra Thomas, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Studio Art; Heidi Wilson, Outstanding Graduating Senior in English.
     JENNINGS – Patience January, Outstanding Senior in Criminal Justice.
     LORANGER– Brittanie Alston, Outstanding Senior in Graphic Design; Megan Mosher, Outstanding Senior in Communication.
     LULING– Kali Brou, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Liberal Arts Studies. 
     MANDEVILLE – Timothy Dunn, Outstanding Graduating Senior in English; Lauren Wicker, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Psychology.
     PONCHATOULA – Lauren Bennett, Martina Buck Award in History; Rachel Carazo, Outstanding Graduating Senior in English and French; Dusty Cooper, 2011 D Vickers Award for Creative Writing; Jonathan Lyons, Ralph R. Pottle Scholarship for Outstanding Freshman.
     SLIDELL – Timothy McCarty, Outstanding Graduating Senior in Sociology.
 SPRINGFIELD – Brandon Kenyon, Ralph R. Pottle Scholarship for Outstanding Freshman.
     INTERNATIONAL – Yana Obolenskaya, Odessa, Ukraine, James Wilcox Award in Music for Outstanding Graduating Senior.
     Also at the honors convocation, the college honored several faculty members with awards. Recognized were Agnieska Gutthy, languages and communication, for excellence in research; Amber Narro, languages and communication, for excellence in service; and James Winter, fine and performing arts, for excellence in artistic activity.
     The college honored inductees into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the university’s honor society the Thirteen Club, and students on the President’s List, Dean’s List, and Honor Roll.

8) SOUTHEASTERN ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES HONORS (INTERNATIONAL) – Southeastern Louisiana University honored students from the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the college’s May 2 honors convocation. Yana Obolenskaya of Odessa, Ukraine, left, received the James Wilcox Award in Music for Outstanding Graduating Senior.
