     HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University student Jamie Vaughn of Amite was named the Outstanding Student Teacher in Early Childhood Education by the College of Education and Human Development.
     Vaughn received her award at the college’s annual honors convocation May 5. She was selected from among two other finalists, Misty Burns of Albany and Janice Morgan of Holden.
     The college also recognized as its outstanding alumnus current Tangipahoa Parish School Board member Al Link of Hammond. After playing Lions basketball for four years, Link received his bachelor of arts degree in 1963 and master of education degree in 1968 from Southeastern. Upon graduation, he became a teacher and coach at Hammond High School. He became an assistant principal at Hammond High in 1976, serving in that capacity until assuming the duty of principal in 1992. Upon retirement in 1998, he was elected to the school board where is is currently starting his fourth term. 
     The college also announced the recipients of departmental honors, scholarships, and grants and new members of the Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, and Phi Alpha honor societies and Southeastern’s own Thirteen Club honor society. 
     Students receiving departmental honors and scholarships included:
     ALBANY – Misty Burns, nominee for the Outstanding Student Teacher Award.
     AMITE – Jamie Vaughn, Exemplary Graduate in Elementary Education PK-3, Outstanding Student Teacher Award.
     BATON ROUGE – Sonja Dillon, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant Recipient.

     COVINGTON – Reneisha Cherry, Exemplary Graduate in Secondary Education
     DENHAM SPRINGS – Jennifer Strickland, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant Recipient.
     GREENSBURG – Diane Speed, Outstanding Senior in English Education; and Ashley Woodard, Outstanding Senior in Social Work.
     HOLDEN – Janice Morgan, nominee for Outstanding Student Teacher Award.
     HOUMA – Amanda Rodriguez, Pyburn Award for Outstanding Senior in Family and Consumer Sciences.
     KENNER – Katie Quinn, Outstanding Senior in Social Studies Education; and Leona Delatte, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant Recipient.
     LORANGER – Renee Goudeau, Maddox Award for Outstanding Junior in Family and Consumer Sciences.
     MANDEVILLE – Courtney H. Robinson, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant Recipient; and Rebecca Strain, Exemplary Graduate in Elementary Education 1-5. 
     MARRERO – Jasper Collor, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant Recipient.
     NEW ORLEANS – Jaleesa J. Jett, Title IV-E Child Welfare Grant Recipient.
     PEARL RIVER – Kendal Kyzar, Outstanding Senior in Spanish Education.

     SLIDELL – Stephen Ford, Outstanding Service Award.

With him is President John L. Crain. Link received his bachelor of arts degree in 1963 and master of education degree in 1968 from Southeastern.


2) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT HONORS (BATON ROUGE) – Sonja Dillon of Baton Rouge was honored as a Title IV-E Welfare Grant recipient at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development’s honors convocation May 5. Congratulating her is Bill Neal, interim dean.


3) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT HONORS (JEFFERSON) – Katie Quinn, left, of Kenner and Jasper Collor of Marrero, were among the award recipients at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development’s annual honors convocation May 5. Quinn received the award for Outstanding Senior in Social Studies Education; Collor was honored as a Title IV-E Welfare Grant recipient.


4) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENT HONORS (LIVINGSTON) – Joelin Carlin, left, of Springfield and Jennifer Strickland of Denham Springs were honored as Title IV-E Welfare Grant recipients at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development’s honors convocation.

Both were honored as Title IV-E Welfare Grant recipients.

TAMMANY) – Students from St. Tammany Parish were among the award recipients at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education and Human Development’s annual honors convocation May 5.
