     HAMMOND – Fourteen Southeastern Louisiana University students have been chosen as members of the 2011 Homecoming queen and beau courts. The seven women and seven men will reign over Homecoming festivities Oct. 31- Nov 5.
     Chosen as members of the queen court were seniors Tivonsheia Broussard, New Orleans; Ashley Gertsen, Metairie; Grace Gilbreath, Spanish Fort, Ala.; Keturah Green, Baton Rouge; and Erika Payton, Sorrento; junior Jacy Carpenter, O’Fallen, Ill.; and sophomore Heather Hand, Denham Springs. 
     Members of the beau court are seniors M.J. Ahmad, Ann Arbor, Mich.; Shannon Grover, LaPlace; Kragen Lewis, Natchitoches; Edson Pierre, New Orleans; and Casey Thomas; Ponchatoula; and juniors Jordan Leggett, Slidell and Jeremy Miller, Baton Rouge.
     The 2011 queen and beau, the top junior or senior vote-getters in the recent online campus election, will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming football game when the Lions take on Sam Houston State on Homecoming Day, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. in Strawberry Stadium.
     The court also will participate in Homecoming festivities such as Gumbo Ya Ya on Nov. 2, the bonfire and pep rally on Nov. 3, and the 3:30 p.m. Homecoming Day parade.
     Broussard, a political science major, is sweetheart of Nu Delta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. She is a member of NAACP, the Black Student Union and is a mentor in Project PULL. She is on the Dean’s List, is vice-president of Delta Sigma Theta, and president of From Start 2 Finish.
     Gertsen majors in marketing with a minor in biology. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, where she serves as treasurer. She is vice president of finance and membership of Southeastern’s American Marketing Association chapter, was a 2009 orientation leader, and a member of the Southeastern Student Foundation Board. She is a Green “S” Award recipient and has been named to the President’s List.
     Gilbreath, a kinesiology major, is sweetheart of Alpha Omicron Pi. She is the 2011 Student Government Association (SGA) director of financial affairs, vice president and treasurer of College Republicans, a 2011 Division of Student Affairs Leadership Ambassador, a 2010 orientation leader and a member of the 2010 big event planning committee. She is a Green “S” Award recipient and was named to the President’s List in spring 2011.
     Green, an organizational communication major, is sweetheart of University Housing. She is a member of Gamma Beta Phi, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Project P.U.L.L., the NAACP, and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. She is in the honors program and has remained on the President’s List since her freshman year. She is a resident assistant and is responsible for training and development of other resident assistants for three campus residence halls.
     Payton, a business management major, is a member of the Black Student Union, NAACP, Sigma Alpha Lambda Honor Society, and the Student Leadership Committee. She is a Charles Emery Cate Excellence Endowed Scholarship recipient, received Southland Conference Academic Honors in 2009 and 2010, and has been named to the President’s and Dean’s lists.
     Carpenter is a president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, associate chief justice for SGA, a 2010 orientation leader, and Miss Black and Gold Louisiana for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. A psychology major, she was named 2010-11 Division of Student Affairs’ Role Model of the Year, was named outstanding Pan-Hellenic member, and has been on the Dean’s List for the past two and a half years.
     Hand is a voice performance major. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Italian Club. She is the 2011 Southeastern Star, the 2010 first runner-up for Miss Southeastern and is on the President’s list.
     Ahmad is an organizational communication and marketing major. He is SGA vice-president, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity vice-president, and a member of the track and field team. He helped lead Southeastern to its first ever Southland Conference outdoor track championship in 2009 and is a recipient of the Skibinski Scholarship.
     Grover is majoring in business management and is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, the Southeastern Track and Field team and the SAAC representative for track and field. He is on the Southland Conference Academic Honor Roll and is a two-time member of the president’s and dean’s list. Grover was also a member of Southeastern’s Conference Championship Track team in 2009 and holds numerous school records in sprinting and relay events.
     Lewis, a kinesiology major, is beau of Gamma Beta Phi. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and the Black Student Union. He was a member of the men’s intramural championship softball team two years in a row and has been on the President’s and Dean’s lists every semester.
     Pierre is a supply chain management major. He is beau and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and a member of the SGA. 
     Thomas, a kinesiology major, is beau of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. He is president of Theta Xi fraternity. He is also president of the Kinesiology and Health Studies Club and is the public relations chair for College Republicans. He was a Green “S” Award recipient in 2010 and 2011.
     Leggett is a vocal performance major. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, Delta Omicron Music Fraternity, Fortissimo, and SGA. He was the 2010 Spirit of Orientation recipient, 2010 Orientation Leader of the Year, and a member of the 2010-2011 and 2011-12 orientation leader teams.
     Miller, a supply chain management major, is beau of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is a member of From Start 2 Finish, NAACP, Black Student Union, and a former member of the Southeastern Track and Field team.
