HAMMOND – A Southeastern Louisiana University student has been selected to receive two scholarships
in the area of horticulture.
Ashley Edwards, a plant science major from Ponchatoula, has been awarded a $500
scholarship from the Hammond Garden Club and a $1,000 scholarship from the Louisiana
Nursery and Landscape Association.
The Hammond Garden Club made its decision based on financial need, scholarship
and enrollment in a plant science study.
"Ashley competed against students from LSU, Louisiana Tech, and ULL for the Louisiana
Nursery and Landscape Association," said instructor Sid Guidry. "The scholarship was
for a student who had achieved a high grade point average, had an interest in horticulture
and was enrolled in a plant science study at a Louisiana university."
Edwards received the Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association scholarship
at its annual meeting held at the GulfSouth Horticultural Expo in Mobile, Ala., earlier
this month.
