HAMMOND – Officials with Southeastern Louisiana University announced today the resignation
of Athletics Director Bart Bellairs who joined the institution in November of 2009.
"I appreciate the dedication and integrity that Bart brought to administration of our athletics program," said President John Crain. "Bart has been a stalwart advocate for operating our athletics program in a way that is focused on the overall success of the student athlete."
In announcing he will recommend to the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors that current Head Baseball Coach Jay Artigues be appointed Interim Athletics Director, Crain lauded Artigues for his successful tenure with the baseball program. Assistant Baseball Coach Matt Riser will assume the reins of the baseball program as Interim Head Coach.
"Coach Artigues has demonstrated great leadership skills and commitment to Lion Athletics," Crain said. "I am confident he has the skill set to serve as an effective Interim Director of Athletics."
"I am honored and humbled," said Artigues of his interim appointment. "I'm also extremely excited about the future of Lion Athletics and confident that Matt Riser will continue the strong tradition of Lion Baseball."
Southeastern will move forward immediately with the search to identify a permanent athletics director.
