HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University's Division of Extended Studies is offering a non-credit workshop on Robert's Rules of Order this month.
Offered at the Livingston Parish Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Blvd., Walker, the workshop will be led by Judge James Kuhn and will be held on Friday, March 22, from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost of the workshop is $57.50, but the Division of Extended Studies is partnering with the Livingston Parish Chamber to offer the workshop to its members at a cost of $50.
"Robert's Rules of Order govern the conduct of most meetings of clubs, associations, large or small corporations, and public bodies," said Kuhn, a justice with the Louisiana First Circuit Court of Appeal. "Discussions will include the techniques for members of such organizations to express their will in a competent, straight-forward manner so as to present the views of the members on issues and, at the same time, prevent chaos during the meetings."
Kuhn added that voting methods, polling of votes, and the effects of abstention of voting will be explained, as well as appropriate consideration of motions, amendments to motions, tabling of motions, and preparation of and changing of pre-meeting agendas.
To register or for more information about these or other Extended Studies courses, visit www.southeastern.edu/es or call 255-665-3303 in Walker.
