Southeastern College of Education honors top students

HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University students Michael Anna Catalanotto and Juliane
E. King, both of Hammond, were named the Outstanding Student Teachers by the College
of Education at its honors convocation May 7.
Catalanotto was recognized for her student teaching in elementary education,
while King was honored for her work in secondary education.
The college also recognized Darrell J. Fairburn, current superintendent for the
Washington Parish School System, as its Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. A 1975
graduate with a degree in physical education, he earned a master's in administration
and supervision in 1977. Fairburn taught at Spring Creek High School and Sumner High
School, where he also coached basketball and track. He served as principal of West
Side Middle School and Sumner High before being appointed Tangipahoa Parish School
System supervisor of personnel. In 2006 he was named to his current position. Fairburn
worked with the university in helping to redesign its master's program in administration
and supervision.
The college also announced the recipients of departmental honors, scholarships,
and grants and new members of the Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta Pi, and Phi Alpha honor
societies and Southeastern's own Thirteen Club honor society.

LIBERTY, MISS. – Callie Causey, Exemplary Graduate in Elementary Education 1-5.
MADISONVILLE – Jennifer Senac, Exemplary Graduate in Early Childhood Education PK-3.
MANDEVILLE – Jennie Stewart, Outstanding Senior in Spanish Education (shared).
METAIRIE – Marian Usey, Exemplary Graduate in Middle School Education 4-8.
SLIDELL – Bryan Perissutti, Outstanding Senior in Social Studies Education; Alexis Wright,
Outstanding Senior in Speech Education.
ST. AMANT – Michael E. Simmons, Outstanding Senior in Chemistry Education.

annual honors convocation May 7 with the Outstanding Senior in English Education Award.
3) SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF EDUCATION HONORS (LIVINGSTON) – Lauren Richard of Denham
Springs was a nominee for the Outstanding Elementary Education Student Teacher Award
presented at the Southeastern Louisiana University College of Education's annual honors
convocation May 7.
