HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University will host a seminar Wednesday, Nov. 13, on effective techniques for using LinkedIn for business.

The free event will be held in Livingston at the Livingston Parish Library main branch on 20390 Iowa St. from 9 a.m. to noon.

"LinkedIn is based on the rule of six degrees of separation, which means that you are no more than six introductions away from meeting anyone in the world," said Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Small Business Development Center. "While more commonly used for those in the B2B (business to business) sphere, LinkedIn contains much value for anyone in the business world."

Summers said the first half of the event will focus on LinkedIn and cover topics including optimizing a profile, hiring solutions, job seeking, groups and group ownership, company pages, endorsements and recommendations, premium accounts and more.

"This class is suited for those that want to get the most out of LinkedIn," Summers said. "If you are looking to create leads, gain new connections, hire the most qualified candidate, network with power, or even drive traffic back to your site, this class will teach you how to utilize LinkedIn to produce the return you are looking for."

Summers said the second half of the session will focus on simple social media marketing strategies for small business and is designed to give small businesses and nonprofit organizations some ideas for growing their organizations. Topics will include what to write about, how to get more people to stop and read messages, and how to get more action or reaction to messages and offers.

"We will discuss what it means to run a campaign and tactics for measuring success without spending a lot of time or money," she said. "This is a great class for beginners and smaller organizations looking to accomplish more in less time and with a small budget."

There is no charge to attend the event; however, seating is only guaranteed for pre- registered participants. For more information, contact LSBDC Southeastern at 985-549-3831 or lsbdc.slu@lsbdc.org. Online registration is available at www.lsbdc.org.
