LSBDC to hold Hammond government procurement conference on coastal restoration projects in Louisiana

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development center will partner with several area agencies to sponsor a government procurement conference for coastal restoration projects in Louisiana.

Scheduled in Hammond on Thursday, May 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., the free event will be held at the Worley Training Center located at 151 Robin Hood Drive. The conference is offered in partnership with The Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center and the Hammond Area Economic Industrial Development District.

"The conference is targeted to Louisiana companies with construction, engineering, feasibility study, design, geo-tech and/or surveying capabilities," said Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Small Business Development Center.

Summers said conference highlights and topics include the following:

-- how coastal restoration projects will be handled;

-- where Louisiana-based businesses can find the bidding opportunities for coastal restoration projects;

-- how Louisiana businesses can bid these projects and secure contracts;

-- doing business with local, state and federal government agencies;

-- DBE business opportunities and certification process;

-- HUBZone business opportunities and certification process.

The conference will include a panel in which representatives of local businesses will provide pointers and tips for successfully securing government contracts.

There is no cost to attend the conference, but preregistration is preferred.  Only preregistered attendees are guaranteed seating.
