HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Symphonic Band will perform on Thursday, May 8, in Pottle Music Building Auditorium.

Sponsored by the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, the free performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Paul Frechou, director of Athletic Bands and Music Education, will serve as conductor, while Victor Drescher, clarinetist, is guest soloist, and Berchmans J. Perez III and Robert Campo will serve as guest conductors.

The Symphonic Band will perform "Valdres" by Johannes Hanssen; "Chester" by William Schuman; "Orchestration Project" by the orchestration class; "Prelude and Allegr," by Robert Campo; "Introduction, Theme, and Variations" by Gioacchino Rossini; "Prelude, Siciliano and Rondo" by Malcolm Arnold; and "Selections from Mary Poppins," by Richard and Robert Sherman.

"The Orchestration Project is a sampling of a few student compositions taken from the orchestration class this semester," said Frechou. "Students in the Symphonic Band voted on the compositions they would like to perform, and the composers rehearsed the band."
