HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center will partner with the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation and local Google photographer J.R. Portman to host a seminar on the use of the search engine by businesses on Thursday, Nov. 13.

Scheduled in Mandeville at the St. Tammany Center, 21454 Koop Drive, the seminar, titled "Google My Business," is scheduled from 12 to 1 p.m., with networking set to begin at 11:30 a.m.

Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Small Business Development Center said 97 percent of American consumers will use online media when researching products or services in their local area. A Google business listing can be an ideal starting point for businesses to connect with those local consumers searching for goods and services online, she added.

"The Google Business listing allows local businesses to give an overall picture of their brands to consumers and should be an essential piece to any digital marketing strategy," she said. "In this class, the instructor will discuss how to make use of the Google listing and the critical part it plays in online brand development and research."

Summers said seminar topics include following the listing set-up process, search categorization, map placement and correction, photography and virtual tours, customer review strategy, Google Plus social management, and local search engine optimization.

There is no cost to attend the seminar, but pre-registration is required. Registration is available online at https://www.lsbdc.org/.
