HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University's Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program and Office of Veteran's Services will host a myriad of free activities in honor of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

An open house for students who are veterans will be held at 9 a.m. in the Office of Veteran Services, located at North Campus building A, room 132. The action for the remainder of the day moves to the Pennington Student Activity Center.

An official National Roll Call for the Fallen Heroes in Southeast Louisiana with a moment of silence for all military soldiers and veterans who have served the nation follows at 1 p.m. on the Pennington lawn.

Also scheduled at the Pennington Center are outdoor activities on the lawn, including games, a rock wall, inflatable football toss, horseshoes, bean bag toss, and refreshments. Activities scheduled inside the Pennington Center include a campus/community fair of resources and services available to veterans in support of their academic, job search and career successes.

VUB will also host a program for participants by awarding appreciation certificates for their years of service, providing gifts donated by the community and end with offering a military memory making workshop. Veterans will be awarded the album for the specific branch in which they were enlisted as a gift to continue sharing their stories and experiences compliments of the VUB Program.

Veterans Upward Bound is a federally funded TRIO program that provides a wide range of services to honorably discharged veterans who have served at least 180 days. These services include, but are not limited to, academic instruction, enrollment assistance, and financial aid assistance.
