HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) at Southeastern Louisiana University, along with SCORE Northshore, the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce and St. Tammany Economic Development, will present a free workshop on payroll management.

Scheduled Thursday, May 14, the event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in Covington at the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, located at 610 Hollycrest Blvd.

Assistant Director of Southeastern's SBDC Sandy Summers said the class is highly recommended for individuals or businesses interested in payroll management.

"Payroll management includes activities in two major areas – payroll accounting and payroll administration," said Summers.

Payroll accounting, Summers explained, consists of calculating the earnings of employees and the related withholding for taxes and other deductions, recording the results of payroll activities and preparing required tax documents. Payroll administration includes managing employee personnel and payroll information and compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.

"At the end of the workshop, attendees will have an understanding of Louisiana payroll requirements," she said.

The guest speaker for the workshop is Patrick J. Gros, president of Patrick J. Gros, CPA, a professional accounting corporation located in Covington.

There is no cost to attend the event; however, seating is only guaranteed for pre-registered attendees. For more information or to register, contact LSBDC Southeastern at 985-549-3831 or lsbdc.slu@lsbdc.org. Online registration is available at www.lsbdc.org.
