HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) at Southeastern
Louisiana University, the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, St. Tammany
Economic Development Foundation and FranNet Louisiana will host a free business expo
for individuals seeking recession-resilient business ownership on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
The expo is scheduled in Mandeville from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Causeway Branch
Library, located at 3457 Hwy. 190. A light lunch will be provided.
The event features franchisors in health services, insurance paid damage restoration,
business to business marketing services, home décor, and HVAC services, said FranNet
of Louisiana’s Ted Fireman. Benetrends, a leader in franchise financing, will also
participate.
“New Orleans and particularly the Northshore have become an entrepreneurial hotbed.
For a lot of people, the right route to owning their own business is through a less
volatile model – franchising,” Fireman said. “This expo is designed to demonstrate
the advantages of franchising, why the success rate far exceeds independent business
start ups, and to expose people to companies looking to expand into Southeast Louisiana
and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
Fireman said the goal is to help individuals find a route to owning their own
business that maximizes their skills and resources and is not fast food or restaurants.
“We’ll help people understand how to carefully and effectively research a franchise
business that matches their goals – whether full or part time,” he said. “I expect
this expo to show people the depth and breadth of options and the level of business
sophistication available if they are willing to explore the possibilities.”
Fireman said the first 25 individuals to register and attend will receive a free
book titled, “The Franchise Rules.”
