Southeastern LSBDC to host event for veteran owned businesses

HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) at Southeastern Louisiana University and several partners will present a full day of workshops for the military and veteran community on Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Mandeville.

The event will be held at the St. Tammany Administrative Complex, Building B, room 325, located at 21454 Koop Drive, and includes two four-hour sessions. Additional sponsors include the Louisiana District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), SCORE Northshore, Louisiana Technical Procurement Assistance Center (PTAC), Louisiana Economic Development (LED), and the St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation (EDF)

Assistant Director of Southeastern's SBDC Sandy Summers said the event is designed for all active duty, guard and reserve military members, veterans and spouses who are interested in starting a business, as well as those currently in business.

The program begins with the morning seminar titled "Starting Your Veteran-Owned Small Business," from 8 a.m. to noon. It will feature presentations for start-ups, including an introduction of programs and services offered at St. Tammany EDF; "Starting and Financing a Business" by SCORE Northshore; "Obtaining Assistance with Government Contracting" by Cindy Carrier of PTAC; "SBA Programs and Services" by Melissa Daigrepont of SBA's Louisiana District Office; and "Louisiana's Small Business Loan and Incentives Programs" by Steve Baham of LED.

The second half runs from 1 p.m., running to 5 p.m., and is designed for established small businesses. Presentations will include an introduction of programs and services offered at St. Tammany EDF; "Finding and Securing Government Contracts" by Carrier; "Expand Your Business: SBA Loan Programs and International Trade" by Daigrepont; "Louisiana's Small Business Loan and Incentives Programs" by Baham; a veteran-owned small business panel discussion; and "LSBDC Support and Assistance to Small Business Owners" by LSBDC at Southeastern.
