HAMMOND – The Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) at Southeastern
Louisiana University will co-sponsor with the St. Helena Parish Government and Northshore
SCORE a free seminar designed to help individuals interested in starting a business.
The seminar, titled “Starting and Financing Your Business Idea,” will take place
in Amite on Wednesday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon at the St. Helena Parish Multipurpose
Center, located at 31676 Hwy. 16 West.
“This workshop is highly recommended for all individuals interested in determining
the feasibility of their business ideas and for those planning to start or who have
recently started a small business. It would also be helpful for anyone seeking a small
business loan or wanting to learn more about business planning,” said Sandy Summers,
assistant director of the Small Business Development Center.
Topics to be covered include writing a business plan, sources of funds for start-up
and expansion, small business resources, and required licenses.
Summers said for those visiting the St. Helena Parish Multipurpose Center for
the first time to note that a GPS will not accurately recognize the address.
“If you are traveling south on Interstate 55, exit at Amite and turn right on
Hwy. 16, or if traveling north on 55, turn left after exiting. The center is approximately
five miles west of Amite, across from Paul Davis Lumber Company. If you are travelling
on Hwy. 16 from the west – Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Pine Grove area – then the
center will be 4.7 miles past Montpelier on the left. Paul Davis Lumber Company can
again be used as a marker.”
Although there is no cost to attend, seating is only guaranteed for pre-registered
attendees. To register or for more information, call (985) 549-3831. Online registration
is also available at www.lsbdc.org.
