HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s own 90.9 KSLU will celebrate the 10-year
anniversary of its Italian music program “Caffè Italia” this fall. The 30-minute show
is hosted by Southeastern Italian and Spanish professor Francesco Fiumara, who brought
Caffe’ Italia to KSLU to share the music and culture of Italy with the local community.
“Francesco has done an outstanding job of making the Italian language accessible
and interesting for our listeners over the years,” said KSLU General Manager Todd
Delaney. “During his 10-year stint he has produced and hosted over 500 shows. It enriches
the station’s offerings to provide cultural programming such as Caffé Italia.”
In honor of the show’s anniversary, Delaney said, Fiumara is planning a special
episode celebrating 10 years of music at the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy. The
10-year anniversary special will air Sunday, Sept. 17.
“The goal of this episode is to present the listener with a comprehensive look
back at the best of the last 10 years in Italian music,” said Fiumara. “We are celebrating
10 years of ‘Caffé Italia’ and 10 years of great Italian music.”
The Sanremo Music Festival traditionally lasts five nights in February and highlights
new music from the best Italian singers. Each festival ends with the presentation
of the Sanremo Music Festival award for best singer.
Caffè Italia airs on Sundays at 8 p.m. and is also available online at kslu.org.
