HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s Professor of Chemistry and Physics Sanchiro
Yoshida will present the next Science on Tap presentation titled “Physics in our Daily
Life – How Beautiful it is.”
Yoshida will explore the use of physics in daily life, such as exercising and
eating a favorite food.
Sponsored by the Department of Biological Sciences, the presentation is scheduled
Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at Tope La Catering, 113 East Thomas St. in Hammond, and is free
and open to all ages. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with food and beverages available for
purchase.
Yoshida said the presentation will begin with brief explanations of fundamental
laws of mechanics and electrodynamics with minimal mathematics.
“These laws will be used to understand various things we observe every day, such
as why it is difficult to lose weight by exercise, how to drive our cars safely and
economically, and how to win in a tennis match,” he said. “Some topics will be discussed
quantitatively with simple calculations. It is hoped that this presentation provides
new ways of viewing what we do routinely and the consequences.”
Comments and questions are highly welcomed during the presentation, Yoshida said.
