HAMMOND – Due to COVID-19 restrictions, and because a good event cannot be kept
down, the Friends of Sims Library will be presenting its annual Wine with Friends
in a different format this year. While it will not be possible to meet for the traditional
tasting at Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library, the Friends
are offering two packages of wines and cheeses needed to host an individual small
tasting during the holidays or to enjoy at leisure.
The first package consists of two bottles of wine, a “Lago” Cerqueira Rose’ 2019
from Portugal and a red La Fiera Montpulciano d’Abruzzo 2017, and an assortment of
cheeses in a reusable canvas bag. The package is $50. The second package adds a red
Jardim da Estrela 2017 from Portugal along with a bottle of Kentwood Yulupa Brut sparkling
wine and an assortment of cheeses and chocolates and is $100.
Each participant will be given a link to a video featuring this year’s partners
for the event, Todd Delaune, owner of The Red, White and Brew, and Ashley Pequet,
owner of The Rind Cheese Shop and Catering, who will talk about the wines and cheeses
and, no doubt, add some sparkle to a private wine tasting.
All orders must be purchased by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at southeastern.edu/librarywine.
Wine and cheese packages will be available for pick-up in Hammond on Thursday, Dec.
10. Once orders are placed, pick-up information will be distributed. Participants
living in Hammond or Ponchatoula will also have the option of home delivery for an
additional $5.
This year, proceeds from Wine with Friends will be used to purchase additional
tech devices, such as laptops, chrome books, headphones, webcams, chargers, and hotspots
for student use as Southeastern has moved to some online learning due to the pandemic.
