LHSRA Calculator Usage Policy Guidelines


District Literary Rally 2014


This statement of policy guidelines for the 2014 District and State Rallies will allow participants to use certain models of calculators on Mathematics and Science event test. The guidelines reflect consistency with official calculator usage policies of national testing services ACT, SAT, PSAT, NMSQT and recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

NO CELL PHONES AND PAGERS ALLOWED IN TESTING OR COMPETITION ROOMS.

 

Calculators are highly recommended, but not compulsory for Mathematics and Science District and State Rally events. As established by ACT, four-function, scientific, or graphing calculators* are permitted; however, the following features are excluded:

 

 


Excluded:

computer-type capabilities
QWERTY keyboards
use of paper tapes
noise/sound occurring during use
pocket organizers
handheld or laptop computers
electronic writing pads or pen-input devices
wireless transfer of information capabilities
use of power cords

Calculators and/or extra batteries will not be provided. Sharing and/or borrowing of calculators during testing is strictly prohibited.

Violation of any of the aforementioned exclusions will result in immediate disqualification of the student violator and subject his/her school to a probationary status of not less than two 2 academic years.
