This fall we celebrate the establishment of two Board of Regents matched funds: the Edgar R. Smith, III Endowed Professorship in Business and the Peggy Jacob–First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula First Generation Scholarship.
Smitty’s Supply Inc., one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of lubricants and greases in the world, established the professorship as part of a significant gift benefiting four specific areas of the University—business, supply chain management, accounting, and the professional sales program.
“This generous donation demonstrates Smitty’s Supply Inc.’s commitment and partnership with Southeastern,” said Senior Director of Development and Advancement Services Katherine Rose. “Smitty’s investment in Southeastern is an investment in transforming the lives of students.”
Long-term educator Peggy King Jacob and her husband Raymond “Biddie” Jacob, a decorated WWII veteran, established the Peggy Jacob–First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula First Generation Scholarship through a bequest to the First Presbyterian Church of Ponchatoula.
It was Raymond and Peggy’s desire to bequeath their family home to the church and that scholarships be established in his wife’s memory benefiting education majors at Southeastern. The proceeds from the sale of their family home have established two significant education scholarships, a general one for education majors and the First Generation Scholarship, which requires recipients to be the first in their families to attend college.
The legacy of Peggy and Biddie Jacob, who actively cared for young people in the area, is perpetuated in the establishment of these scholarships.
Endowed professorships and first generation scholarships are established with a donor’s contribution of $80,000 that is matched with $20,000 from the Board of Regents
