HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University will present Annette Hurley, the department head of Louisiana State University’s Communication Disorders, Audiology Program Director, and Associate Professor, as the featured speaker at the 2022 Campbell Conference on campus Feb. 18. Scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Student Union Theatre, the conference is open to students and professionals in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology.
“The faculty in Communication Sciences and Disorders is excited to offer the Campbell Conference in 2022 after a break due to Covid. This year’s topic is such an important one for both audiologists and speech-language pathologists,” said Southeastern Associate Professor, Audiologist and Program Director Rebecca Davis. “Dr. Hurley has many years of experience in research, teaching, and working with clinicians in this area, and we expect attendees to gain knowledge and ideas that they can put into practice.”
Hurley, who teaches courses in central auditory processing disorders and electrophysiology, will address students and professionals at the day-long conference. Sponsored by Southeastern’s Communication Sciences and Disorders program, the conference is titled “Understanding Auditory Processing Disorders: Information for Clinicians.”
Hurley’s current research interests include Central Auditory Processing Disorder, electrophysiology, and evidence for brain plasticity after auditory training. In recent years, she said, there has been an increased demand for diagnosis and treatment of CAPD.
“Speech-language pathologists are key in providing referrals for diagnostic testing and treatment and management,” she said. “This course will review the diagnostic assessment, and current available auditory training options for the treatment of CAPD, including computer mediated programs, apps, and formal auditory training.”
On line registration is now open with fees of $85 for professionals and $15 for students with university identification through Feb. 8. Beginning Feb. 9, the fee is $110 for professionals and $35 for students with university ID. On-site registration, pending seating availability, is $160 for professionals and $45 for students with university ID.
