HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Alumni Association has launched an Accounting and Financial Services Professional Network. The community network is available in the Southeastern Connect platform.
Executive Director of Alumni Relations Michelle Biggs said the network aims to spark crucial connections and cutting-edge conversations within the accounting, banking and financial services industries. The network offers a unique opportunity, she explained, for alumni, faculty and students to connect with like-minded professionals, to inspire and learn from each other as they engage within the university.
“Our professional networks will host dynamic events that connect members of the Southeastern community by areas of industry, helping both alumni and current undergraduates to leverage the exceptional Southeastern alumni network,” she said. “Whether your goal is to expand your own professional network, hear from leaders in your field, explore new industries, engage in cutting-edge conversations, discover employment options, or seek expert opinions, our alumni around the world are ready to connect with you.”
Biggs said the Alumni Association and the Accounting and Financial Services Professional Network are hosting their first lecture event on Thursday, April 28. Southeastern Associate Professor of Accounting and Finance Louis Le Guyader will present “Cryptocurrency: Clever or Criminal?” at 6 p.m. in the Cate Teacher Education Center Lecture Hall, room 1022. The lecture will be preceded by an hour of social networking beginning at 5 p.m.
“Cryptocurrency is on everyone’s lips – from small-time investors looking to strike it rich to government officials worried it will destabilize the economy,” she said. “But despite all the buzz, many are still unsure what crypto is all about. Who’s behind it? What’s the difference between blockchain and bitcoin?”
“In his presentation, Dr. Le Guyader will cut through the hype and hyperbole surrounding crypto and explain the most important ideas in everyday language,” Biggs said. “This fun and informative lecture will be preceded by an hour of social networking. All alumni, students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.”
Individual entrance fee is $10; however, Southeastern students, faculty and staff get in free with their university ID.
Registration is available through the Southeastern Connect platform at southeasternconnect.org/events.
