HIPS to present spring lecture series
Southeastern Louisiana University’s History and Political Science Department announces its spring lecture series that includes Black History Month and Women’s History Month lectures.

The History and Political Science Department announces its spring lecture series that includes Black History Month and Women’s History Month lectures. All lectures are free and will take place in the Student Union Theatre on Southeastern’s campus in Hammond.
Black History Month lectures include the following:
• Jessica Blake of Louisiana State University will present “How One Shopkeeper Made Sense of Slavery, Freedom, and the Age of Revolution in New Orleans” on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 12:30 p.m.
• Documentary filmmaker Kayla Turner Thomas will present a film and lecture titled “Farming Freedom: The Inspiring True Story of Black Landownership in Mississippi” on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
Women’s History Month lectures include the following:
• Kelly Sellers Wittie of Row 10 Historic Preservation Solutions will present “Thank You for Being a Friend: A Golden Age for Historic Preservation” on Wednesday, March 4, at 12:30 p.m.
• Rachel Harmeyer of Southeastern’s Visual Art + Design Department will present “Picturing Liberty: The Many Faces of Marianne” Tuesday, March 10, at 2 p.m.
• Alison Pelegrin of the English Department will present “Slapped in the Face by Walls: The Lifelines Prison Poetry Project” on Tuesday, March 17, at 11 a.m.
• Blair Galion of the Visual Art + Design Department will present “The Psalter of Whom? A Thematic and Visual Analysis” on Tuesday, March 24, at 11 a.m.
• Samantha Cavell of the History and Political Science Department will present “Introducing Southeastern’s Freyder Military Collection” on Wednesday, March 30, at 12:30 p.m.
