Southeastern, Gateway Ford award sports media scholarship

Southeastern Louisiana University’s television station, the Southeastern Channel, and underwriting partner Gateway Ford have awarded the 2026 Waddell Family Southeastern Channel Sports Media Scholarship to incoming freshman Logan McMorris of Walker.

A recent graduate of Walker High School and an intended sports communication major at Southeastern, McMorris will receive a $1,000 cash award along with an official internship with the Southeastern Channel sports department for the 2026/2027 academic year.

“The real-world opportunities available within the Department of Communications made my decision to attend Southeastern an easy one,” said McMorris. “This scholarship, along with the chance to assist in the live production of athletic events with the channel, only reinforces my belief that Southeastern is the best place to obtain valuable hands-on experience while still a student.”

The scholarship was first awarded in 2025 as a way to encourage high school students in the Northshore area to recognize Southeastern as a premier destination for aspiring sports communicators. McMorris is the award’s second recipient after Alli Dominique of Salmen High.

“Supporting local sports is one of the best ways to support our families and communities,” said Gateway Ford President Allen Waddell. “It’s about more than just individual games, it’s about people coming together to celebrate something positive. Young people like Logan understand those connections. This scholarship is just one way we can help students focus that enthusiasm towards an exciting and rewarding career.”
