How to Move In the Lion Way!
Discover essential tips, event schedules, and packing advice to make your transition into Southeastern’s Lion family seamless and unforgettable.

Welcome to college, Lions!
You are no longer “future Lions” or “prospective students” as of August 15, when Southeastern’s Move-In Mania begins. Orientation is complete, housing locations have been confirmed, and you are officially embarking on your next adventure as a Southeastern Lion.
However, before your journey begins, pull out a pen and paper (or your notes app) to jot down a few tips and tricks from the professionals.
For many, this will be the first time leaving home to live independently. College is a time to open yourself up to new connections and opportunities. At Southeastern, we strive to provide students with the community and resources to succeed—and it all starts on move-in day.
“Moving into the residence halls means you are not just moving into a room; you are moving into a community,” Director of University Housing Amanda McDaniel said.
Don’t be shy: introduce yourself to your roommate and suitemates to build that initial connection. Work together on a room layout that fits both of your needs and creates a compliant space that feels homey and like an academic haven.

Before you unfold those sheets and hang up your posters, familiarize yourself with the rules for decorating Southeastern’s dorm rooms. University Housing lists permitted and prohibited items on its Move-In Mania page.
For starters, a quality comforter, pillows, and blankets go a long way in supporting a college student’s well-being. Leave those candles at home and opt for a scented sachet instead! Decorate your room with painter’s tape and thumbtacks to avoid peeling paint off the dorm walls while still creating a cozy space. “The key to a great move-in is connecting early,” McDaniel said. “Meet your resident assistant, keep your room door open while unpacking, say hello to your neighbors, and sit down with your roommate at the end of the day to have honest conversations about expectations for living in a shared space.”
First Week Lion Events!
So you’ve introduced yourself to your roommate and unloaded your belongings—what’s next? Southeastern provides a variety of events during the first week of school for all students, not just those living on campus, though some are specifically tailored to Housing residents.
These events offer a chance to meet fellow Lions before and after your first day of classes on August 19. Joining the Southeastern community isn’t just about living in your room and going to class. Attending events, learning about student organizations, and meeting your professors are what make this university one-of-a-kind.
To start the Fall 2026 festivities, Friendship Fest on August 16 is a welcome-back event designed to invite students to the Mane Dish for activities, food, and community.
On August 18, the day before classes begin, Southeastern Athletes and the Lionnettes will pick you up at your dorm and usher you to iconic Strawberry Stadium for the annual Strawberry Jam. There, you’ll learn cheers from the spirit squad, meet our fall sports teams, hear from the Spirit of the Southland, and connect with friendly faces.
Print out your class schedules for the first day and get ready to start Fall 2026! The Southeastern University Police Department will offer free refreshments in the Student Union Breezeway, and you might even run into a few campus celebrities on your way to morning classes. Finish your first day with a Silent Disco party at the Student Union to cap off a complete Lion experience.
With no classes on Friday, your first week concludes at the Housing Paint Party on August 20. Wear your least favorite shirt and bring your favorite smile as you spray paint your new Southeastern family!
Move-In Mania can be hectic, and moving into the unknown can be jarring, but Southeastern provides the resources for you to not only succeed but prosper. Our Director of Housing recommends that you “pack plenty of patience” for yourself and branch out at the events the university offers.
