Southeastern announces closing reception for exhibit

Southeastern Contemporary Art Gallery has announced the closing reception for the 2026 Art + Environment Exhibition. Scheduled Aug. 27, at 5 p.m., the event is being held to celebrate the exhibition and its artists.

The exhibition, which is on display through Aug. 27, was inspired by the Art + Environment course taught by Associate Professor Lily Brooks and Professor Ernie Milsted at Southeastern’s Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station. Throughout the semester students focused on creating eco-critical art and responding to the landscape of Southeast Louisiana.

Curated by Autumn Smedley and Izzy Bradley, works in the Art + Environment Exhibition span mediums such as video, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and more.

Student artists that exhibited works include Brenley Bankston and Izzy Bradley of Hammond; Angelina Bonneval of Folsom; Peyton Chaisson of Des Allemands; Adrien Doucet of Morganza; Maxon Stroud of Ponchatoula; Jamison Colors Futrell of Tennessee; Karen Haoffpauir of Kenner; Bret Harmeyer of Abita Springs; Ashton Howard and Xzavier Reed of Baton Rouge; Emmilyn LeBlanc of St. Amant; Nathan A. Lee and Amelia Mouton of LaPlace; Libby S. Martin of Port Sulphur; Katherine McCain of Bogalusa; Gia Melendez of Slidell; Savannah Rae Phillips, Autumn Smedley, and Lahna Rose Simms of Ponchatoula; Brandon Pursifull of Central; Sara Torres of Holden; Ellen Vercellotti of Covington; Chloe Vogt of Prairieville; Olivia Katherine White of Pride; and Trinitee Wilson of Marrero.

Faculty members that exhibited works include Lily Brooks, Ben Diller, Jeff Mickey, and Ernie Milstead.

Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
