The Chamber Orchestra at Southeastern Louisiana University will open its 2026–27 season this fall, marking a special milestone – the beginning of its 10th season under the direction of Conductor Victor Correa-Cruz. Scheduled Oct. 3, in Pottle Auditorium, the opening concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The anniversary season celebrates a decade of music-making, artistic growth, and connection with the Southeastern community. Since his first appearance at Southeastern in November 2017, Correa-Cruz has led the orchestra in programs spanning a wide range of musical traditions and styles, bringing together students, faculty, guest artists, and audiences for performances on the university campus.
The opening concert is free and will showcase that diversity with a program that travels across musical eras and traditions, beginning with “Largo,” an inspiring and melancholic work by Italian violinist and composer Francesco Maria Veracini. The program will continue with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin Concerto in E major, with Correa-Cruz performing the solo part himself.
The concert will also feature Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Divertimento for Strings in D major, K. 136, one of the most beloved works of the master’s production, followed by Antonín Dvořák’s String Serenade in E major, Op. 22.
The evening will conclude with Carlos Gardel’s iconic tango “Por Una Cabeza,” bringing the program into the rich musical world of Latin America and the romantic and bittersweet atmosphere of Argentine tango.
