The History and Political Science Department at Southeastern Louisiana University will present its annual Constitution Day Lecture at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 17, in the Student Union Theatre. Titled “The Impact of Recent Supreme Court Cases,” the lecture is the first of this year’s Fanfare lectures and is free and open to the public.
History and Political Science Department Head Bill Robison said Associate Professor Peter Petrakis will present the lecture.
“The Supreme Court in recent years has taken an extraordinarily activist approach to interpreting the United States Constitution, separation of powers, Presidential authority, Congressional legislation, judicial independence, civil rights, and other issues of critical importance,” Robison said. “Dr. Petrakis, who teaches and writes about the Constitution, public law, and civil rights and liberties, will discuss the impact of recent court decisions on American law and the lives of citizens.”
