Scholarships

 

Zachary Alan Bourg Physics Research Apprenticeship

The Zachary Alan Bourg Physics Research Apprenticeship provides students with the opportunity to conduct research with a Southeastern Louisiana University Physics professor. Awardees will receive $1,000 per academic year ($500 per fall and spring semesters). The award is continued for a maximum of four years as long as the awardee meets the requirements for the continuation of the award. The recipient of the scholarship is chosen by a committee consisting of all tenured physics faculty.

 

The minimum requirements are

  1. Entering full-time freshman physics major at Southeastern Louisiana University.
  2. ACT composite score of 26 or higher.

   3. High school GPA of 3.5 or higher

   4. Successful completion of rigorous math and science classes while in high school

   5. Demonstrated involvement in science or math outside of the classroom, with greater weight       given to demonstrated involvement in physics.


Other criteria that will be taken into account are

  1. Preference will be given to eligible applicants from Ponchatoula High School (Ponchatoula, LA), South Terrebonne High School (Bourg, LA), and Ellender Memorial High School (Houma, LA)

Walter Corkern Scholarship in Chemistry

The scholarship, in the amount of approximately $300 per year, is awarded to a degree-seeking chemistry major. The recipient of the scholarship is chosen by a committee consisting of all tenured chemistry faculty. 

The minimum requirements are

   1. A GPA of 3.0, both overall and in all chemistry courses

   2. Completion of at least CHEM 265/266/267/268.


Other criteria that will be taken into account are

  1. Interest in chemistry as a career.
  2. Financial need.

   3.. Involvement in chemistry outside the classroom.

   4. Volunteer work related to chemistry

   5. Academic performance.

Samuel Giglio Scholarship

1. Must be a chemistry or physics majors who have achieved the 8-credit introductory sequence 

2. Must be active in chemistry and physics undergraduate student clubs and in the department community in general

Norman Higginbotham Scholarship in Physics

The scholarship, in the amount of approximately $300 per year, is awarded to a degree-seeking physics major. The recipient of the scholarship is chosen by a committee consisting of all tenured physics faculty. 

The minimum requirements are

   1. A GPA of 3.0, both overall and in all physics courses

   2. Completion of at least PHYS 221/222/223/224.


Other criteria that will be taken into account are

  1. Academic performance.
  2. Interest in physics as a career.

   3. Financial need.

   4.Involvement in physics outside the classroom.

  

Jack W. Knight Scholarship in Chemistry


The scholarship, in the amount of approximately $1,150 per year, is awarded to a degree-seeking chemistry major. The recipient of the scholarship is chosen by a committee consisting of all tenured chemistry faculty. 

The minimum requirements are

  1. A GPA of 3.0, both overall and in all chemistry courses.
  2. Completion of at least CHEM 121/122/123/124.


Other criteria that will be taken into account are

  1. Interest in chemistry as a career.
  2. Financial need.

   3. Involvement in chemistry outside the classroom

   4. Volunteer work related to chemistry

   5. Academic performance.

J. E. and Mattye Lou Martin Scholarship in Physics

The scholarship, in the amount of approximately $1,000 per year, is awarded to a degree-seeking physics major. The recipient of the scholarship is chosen by a committee consisting of all tenured physics faculty. 

The minimum requirements are

  1. A GPA of 3.0 overall.
  2. Good moral character.


Other criteria that will be taken into account are

  1. Academic performance.
  2. Interest in physics as a career.

   3. Financial need.

   4. Involvement in physics outside the classroom.

Pursley Prize in Chemistry

   1. Must be a chemistry major with junior class standing.

   2. Must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.

   3. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 for all credit earned in chemistry.
