WTI Offers Mini-Scholarships for Industry Certifications

The College of Science and Technology in coordination with the Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce funding for mini-scholarships for information technology industry certifications.  Eligible students must be majoring or minoring in Computer Science or Information Technology.  The College’s Workforce Talent Initiative (WTI) is administering the mini-scholarship program.

If any Computer Science or Information Technology student passes a pre-approved industry certification, they can have a portion of the cost of the exam awarded to them as a scholarship. Maximum amount of the award is 50% of exam amount, not to exceed $100 for an individual exam. This scholarship does NOT cover the cost of training, education or failed exams.  Total scholarships are capped at $250 for an individual student.

“Typically, universities do not emphasize or provide funding for tech industry certifications,” said Dr. John Burris, Department Head of Computer Science.  “We encourage students to earn certifications while in school.  The department has resources in place to help our students prepare for a number of certifications to meet tech industry standards.  We want our students to stand out and demonstrate that they really are real world ready."
