Creative Writing major Zachary Nelson and instructor Leigh Rourks placed in the top ten finalists of the 2012 Tennessee Williams Festival Fiction Contest, judged by Amy Hempel from over 600 entries submitted nationwide.
Zach's story, "Fortunate Son", concerns a Vietnam soldier's experience of loss and sacrifice and the potential for cruelty in the human heart.
Leigh's story, "Moon Trees", concerns a young woman trying to survive her mother's schizophrenia.
