Awards/honors:

  • Southeastern Louisiana University: Member of the honor societies of Gamma Beta Phi, Phi Alpha Theta, The Thirteen Club, and Phi Kappa Phi.
  • Active in honors program at SLU for two years.
  • Recipient of the first annual Dudley Johnson award for outstanding graduate student in history in 1989.

  • May 25, 2000--Presented a paper entitled, "The Hungarians of Livingston Parish, Louisiana," at the 25th Annual Conference of the American Hungarian Educator's Association in Budapest, Hungary.
  • Oct. 10, 2000--presentation and lecture about the Hungarians of Albany to the Women's Club of the First Christian Church in Hammond.
  • Sept. 26, 2001--Presentation of brief history of Hungarian Settlement with Hungarian folk songs to tour group at Old World Bakery near Albany, Louisiana.
  • Oct. 18, 2001--Presentation of brief history of Hungarian Settlement with Hungarian folk songs to tour group at Old World Bakery near Albany, Louisiana.

  • Fri., Oct. 7, 2005--Presented paper entitled, "Two Churches in Hungarian Settlement: A Unique Ethnic Community in Southeast Louisiana," at the Twenty-Fourth Annual Gulf South Historical and Humanities Conference at Pensacola Beach, Florida.

  • Fri., March 31, 2006--Assisted in presenting the “Arpadhon Hungarian Dancers in Concert” at Pottle Auditorium at Southeastern Louisiana University. Wrote and presented the historical narrative.
  • Fri., Aug. 19, 2006--Coordinated a singing and dancing presentation of the Arpadhon Hungarian Settlement Dancers for Hot August Night in downtown Hammond at the Columbia Theater. Wrote and presented the historical narrative.
  • Tues., April 17, 2007--Historical and musical presentation of Hungarian Settlement history and culturefor the Foster Grandparents Program Volunteer Appreciation Week celebration at the American Legion Hall in Springfield, Louisiana.
