LION VIP CARE Program
Louisiana Increasing Opportunities for Nurse Veterans in Primary Care
LION VIP CARE is a unique, limited-time educational opportunity for veteran, active duty, reserve, and national guard undergraduate nursing students. Students receive valuable financial and personal support while completing their chosen degree path—whether a traditional nursing major, second degree accelerated, RN-to-BSN, or LPN-to-BSN. Students who participate in the program will be treated as "very important persons" and provided support during their educational journey in acknowledgment of their service and commitment to others—both in the military and by serving those in rural medically undeserved areas.
In addition to a cutting-edge nursing program that provides a competitive edge in today’s healthcare industry, Southeastern is proud to offer a comprehensive array of military and veteran support services in a welcoming, community-like atmosphere that will help you instantly feel at home. Southeastern has been named a top military-friendly school for the past seven years in a row, is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program, has an active Southeastern Veterans and Military Student Association, is home to a LaVetCorps resource center, and has a dedicated Office for Military and Veteran Success.
As a participant in LION VIP CARE you will receive numerous perks, including:
-
Knowledgeable guidance from a dedicated student success coach and nursing advisor
-
A financial stipend of $600 per credit hour for required undergraduate nursing courses each semester through June 2022
-
The ability to develop primary care competencies through curriculum enhancements
-
Hands-on educational opportunities, including community-based primary care clinical training through academic partnerships
-
Opportunity to participate free of charge in a professional development training workshop for nurses on primary care nursing competencies, roles, and scope of practice
-
A free interdisciplinary professional workshop on the health needs of veterans, including chronic disease prevention and control, mental health and substance use disorders, and military cultural competence
