Stewards of Children

The national organization  Darkness to Light (D2L) and Child Advocacy Services (CAS) of Hammond have recognized Southeastern teacher preparation programs for their leadership in preparing future teachers to recognize and react responsibly to signs or disclosures of sexual abuse. Our teacher education degree programs are the first in Louisiana to require that all future teachers have this knowledge to help keep children safe through Stewards of Children, a national sexual abuse prevention training program. In addition, a 2013 report on this initiative between Southeastern and Child Advocacy Services was made to the Children's Cabinet, established by Governor Jindal, which acknowledged their appreciation and excitement about the initiative and Southeastern's leadership.  All initial level certification programs, early childhood, elementary, middle school, secondary and special education degree programs, have been recognized at the local, state, and national levels for our preparation of teachers.
