Dr. Narro

 

Dr. Amber Narro is a Professor of Communication and a multi-media communication specialist. She earned her B.A. in Communication and M.A. in Organizational Communication from Southeastern and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Ph.D. in Mass Communication. Active in the community, she has held positions on the Boards of Directors for the Hammond and Ponchatoula Chambers of Commerce and for the Northshore Ginger Ford Fuller Center for Housing. She is most proud of her work on the Board of Directors for Options, Inc., an organization that helps those with disabilities live and work in the community. She has been a member of Southeastern's faculty since 2007 and hosts a local radio talk show, Gettin’ Things Done, during which she interviews nonprofit organization leaders and those who work hard to build and grow the community.

Mrs. Andréa Butler, MBA

Academic Advisor

A native of Ville Platte, Louisiana, Mrs. Andréa Butler is the Honors Advisor. She earned a B.A. in English and an M.B.A. from Louisiana State University. Prior to joining Southeastern, she taught for twenty years in the Business Department at Baton Rouge Community College. She also has experience in state government, having worked as a Budget Administrator for the Louisiana Department of Health. Additionally, Mrs. Butler has been a registered yoga teacher since 2018; her current interest involves deepening her knowledge of mindfulness techniques and how those can be applied to improve the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.

Ms. Cathy was born in Independence, LA and has lived in Louisiana all of her life. She started working for Southeastern on June 9, 2003 and in August 2016, she became an Administrative Assistant for the Honors Program and Study Abroad and Global Engagement department.

Hometown- Nairobi, Kenya

Undergraduate degree-  International Business

Graduate degree program- Master of Business Administration

Plans after graduation- My short-term plan is to work in a financial firm and gain experience in the workplace. In the long run, I aim to open an outreach center in Nairobi and partner with institutions across Africa to provide resources for financial inclusion, particularly in underprivileged communities.  

Fun Fact- I am trilingual and have limited working proficiency in two more languages!

Graduate degree program- Strategic Communications

Plans after graduation- To work in either the Human Resources or Public Relations fields, as well as to develop a SEO developer skill.

Fun Fact- I've met Kip Holden, Bobby Jindal, and John Bel Edwards!

Graduate degree program-Masters of Sports Management

Plans after graduation- To work in a sports company or for a sports team. If I end up working for a sports team, then I'm hoping for either football or basketball, or both.
