International Orientation/Welcome Celebration (AUGUST)
MISA and other campus/community organizations combine efforts to give international students a warm welcome, and provide resources and fellowship opportunities.
Welcome Week Block Party (AUGUST)
During the first week of classes, students in MISA organizations gather to showcase students of color and commemorate Fall Welcome Week with food, games, music, and more.
Coming Out Day Day/Week (OCTOBER)
In honor of Coming Out Day (Traditionally held on October 11th), MISA partners with Lavender Lions, the primary LGBTQIA+ group on campus to provide educational and fellowship opportunities for students on campus.
Fall Carnival (OCTOBER)
MISA partners with Black Student Union, Project PULL, Recreational Sports and Wellness, and the Office for Student Engagement each Halloween to provide an alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating for the children of the surrounding community.
Culture Shock (NOVEMBER)
Project PULL and MISA partner to provide a fun and engaging talent showcase for students. Performances include dance, spoken word, rap, and song.
International Education Week (NOVEMBER)
MISA partners with the Department of World Languages and Cultures and the International Student Union to offer a week of educational programming intended to provide cross-cultural experiences for international and American students, and community members.
Transgender Day of Rememberance (NOVEMBER)
Lavender Lions, the primary LGBTQIA+ group on campus and MISA partner to memorialize those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and draw attention to the continued violence endured by transgender people.
Winter MISA Banquet (DECEMBER)
MISA offers a holiday meal and award celebration to honor and celebrate students in early December. Minority and international students and organizations are recognized for their outstanding achievements in academics, community service, and leadership.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day Rememberance Program (JANUARY)
In recognition of the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and MISA organizes a march ceremony to pay tribute to the late leader.
Black History Month (FEBRUARY)
February is Black History Month and Southeastern recognizes the contribution of African Americans, both past and present, with a month long celebration of art, music, lectures, and entertainment. MISA partners with multicultural organizations to promote and plan special meetings and events throughout the month.
Holi (MARCH)
The International Student Union, the Nepalese Student Association, and MISA partner to offer students from different backgrounds the opportunity to celebrate Holi, which represents the triumph of good over evil in Hindu culture.
Women’s History Month (MARCH)
March is Women’s History Month and Southeastern recognizes the contribution of women, both past and present, with a month long celebration of art, music, lectures, and entertainment. MISA partners with multicultural organizations to promote and plan special meetings and events throughout the month.
Spring MISA Banquet (APRIL)
MISA offers a special meal and award celebration to honor and celebrate students in April. Minority and international students and organizations are recognized for their outstanding achievements in academics, community service, and leadership.
